Just last year, The Guardian published a database showing more than 400 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have died in custody since the end of the royal commission into Aboriginal deaths in custody in 1991. The hashtag #AboriginalLivesMatter soon began trending on Twitter, with people calling out our country's erasure of the history of violence against Blak Australians.
