New Zealand couples who survived Gold Coast helicopter crash hail pilot as 'hero' as they recall 'nightmare' joy ride

 Two New Zealand couples who miraculously survived a fatal helicopter crash on the Gold Coast have remembered the "traumatic experience" as a "nightmare" and hailed their pilot as a "hero". Edward and Marle Swart, and friends Riaan and Elmarie Steenberg were all holidaying on the Gold Coast from Auckland when their scenic helicopter crashed into another helicopter mid-air killing four people and severely injuring three more. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating the crash, with the cause of the collision yet to be determined. Hours of video footage to be reviewed as part of fatal Gold Coast helicopter crash investigation

 Photos and video footage from tourists who survived a fatal mid-air collision on the northern Gold Coast will be key to the investigation into Monday's helicopter disaster that claimed four lives. Footage aired by 7 News last night shows the moments before the helicopters collided from inside one of the aircraft. The vision shows a passenger pointing out the window before tapping the helicopter pilot on the shoulder moments before grabbing the seat in front of them as glass was seen to smash in the cabin. Police sources say the phones of passengers from the helicopter that was landed by pilot Michael James are now being examined as detectives and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) comb through hours of video footage sourced from witnesses, passengers and the aircraft involved in the tragic accident. Owner of Sea World Helicopters pays tribute to pilots Ash Jenkinson and Michael James following fatal collision

 The pilot who was killed in the two-helicopter collision on the Gold Coast has been remembered as a "first-class pilot, a first-class man and a wonderful father and partner" by the head of Sea World Helicopters. Director and owner John Orr-Campbell released a statement today, paying tribute to 40-year-old chief pilot Ash Jenkinson. Passengers in the helicopter he was flying, British couple Diane, 57 and Ronald Hughes, 65, and Vanessa Tadros, 36, were also killed in the crash.
