Australians spend an extra $2 billion on booze in 2020

 Household alcohol spending shot through the roof in Australia this year, with people spending $2 billion more than normal on booze during the coronavirus pandemic.

A Finder analysis of Australian Bureau of Statistics data showed that in 2020, Australians spent an average of $1891 on household alcohol – up $270 on 2019.

Spending shot up 17 per cent year-on-year in the September quarter to $6.18 billion, just shy of June's record-breaking $6.21 billion.
