Australia visa scandal:Culprits not prosecuted; Documents from High C’ssion not received

Image
In spite of the fact that the CID submitted its investigative report to the National Security Minister in June 2018, stating that the eight would be arraigned for “making false declarations to obtain visas”, they are yet to be put before any court. A source has told the Daily Graphic that the police have not arraigned the eight because they have not been able to obtain supporting documents from the Australian High Commission in Ghana. The CID, on April 27, 2018, wrote to the Australian High Commission for a full disclosure of the details of all the people who travelled to Australia for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. According to the source, the High Commission said since the information would lead to the prosecution of people, the request must be made by way of Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA), an agreement between two countries for the exchange of information. NPL Australia: Heartbreak for Brisbane Olympic in the final

Image
Most of the National Premier League (NPL) competitions across Australia have already come to an end, with only the final matches of the play-offs left. Among the very few teams that were able to stay alive throughout this difficult process were Brisbane Olympic, after shattering all expectations and advancing to the final thanks to a 1-2 win against the regional champions, Queensland Lions, a couple of weeks a go. Even their mere presence in the final was enough of a success, considering they had finished their regular season in fourth place, which is the last of those that provide access to the play-offs. Meaning that they were able to make it to the finals through the skin of their teeth. Read more:  https://neoskosmos.com/en/146543/npl-australia-heartbreak-for-brisbane-olympic-in-the-final/

Homes lost in Queensland, Australia, bushfires

Image
The two other fires of concern are a huge blaze near the border towns of Applethorpe and Stanthorpe, and a bushfire in hard terrain near Binna Burra in the Scenic Rim. Water bombers are being used to subdue the blaze as ground crews desperately try to get on top of the fire which has so far consumed 11 homes. At least 17 homes were lost - 10 in Sarabah and seven in Stanthorpe - with one family flown to safety by helicopter after becoming trapped on their hinterland property. There has also been significant livestock losses. A fire has also ignited in far north Queensland near where a house was razed on Thursday, near Mareeba, but is not threatening homes at this stage. There had been additional than 80 fires burning at just one position on Monday and there are fireplace bans across most of the tinder-dry condition. How local energy can boost Australia’s climate change resilience

Image
The current bushfire crisis in northern New South Wales and Queensland is a sobering reminder that Australia is one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change. This means that our energy system is also highly vulnerable to severe weather events – not only bushfires and heatwaves, but also severe winds (hello, South Australia in 2016) and floods. But there are things we can do to protect our energy supply from some of the impacts – and they don’t all involve the expensive extremes of beefing up the transmission system or going off grid. Record number of people with a disability being forced onto NewstartHer vision became blurry, she couldn't remember simple tasks and became increasingly fatigued. The 42-year-old was eventually diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), along with auto-immune arthritis and vasculitis, a disease that restricts blood flow. Ms Hunwick was forced to leave her job at a Queensland government department and applied for the Disability Support Pension (DSP). "I thought that it was going to be a short, easy process," she said. "It took 17 months. And I had to fight for it. I literally went through hell just trying to get it. And it caused me to almost want to kill myself," she said. She applied for the DSP in January 2018, providing Centrelink with statements from doctors and occupational therapists. Eight months later, she was rejected. She applied for a Centrelink review and her application was turned down again.

The CCC has been assessing the purchase of the unremarkable property along the route of the state government's Cross River Rail project Ms Trad was overseeing. Despite that assessment, the CCC today said it will not formally investigate her over the matter, but has also called for improvements to Cabinet processes. "The CCC received an initial complaint on 18 July 2019 containing allegations the Deputy Premier engaged in corrupt conduct in relation to decisions about Cross River Rail and, to a lesser extent, decisions about the IC

The National Retail Association, the Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland, the Queensland Hotels Association and the Australasian Association of Convenience Stores have slammed the moves by the Queensland Government to legislate a part-day public holiday from 6pm on Christmas Eve. The industry bodies have again warned the Palaszczuk Government of the impact this move will have on Queensland’s small business community. The proposal has previously been considered by former Labor State Minister John Mickel and was rejected due to the financial impacts on the business community. The industry bodies suggest that if passed, the part-day public holiday will have severe impacts on small, mum-and-dad businesses. "This proposal will result in one of the following outcomes, none of which are desirable to either business owners or the workers they employ: small business passing on the extra costs to consumers via higher prices; operators closing their doors for trade during t

"This new role of Chief Customer and Digital Officer will ensure we will provide assurance at every level of the government's digital systems, reduce duplication, and that we invest in digital projects that meet the needs of Queenslanders," he said. "Our customers need to have confidence and trust that we are listening to t

Residents of the Gold Coast hinterland community of Sarabah have been told to leave by firefighters, as a fast-moving fire front moves towards the town. High temperatures, strong winds and low humidity mean firefighters will face an extremely challenging day, with drought-stricken communities in the south on edge as dams are there are dry. Conditions are expected to intensify on Friday afternoon. Almost 50 fires are burning across Queensland, with several communities advised to prepare to leave. The most urgent warning is for Sarabah, on the fringe of the Lamington State Forest. Locals have been told now is the time to leave, and that they should not expec
